Our African Adventure

We are doing a 4 month trip up the West Coast of Africa with a 1997 Range Rover 4.6. It will be me, my wife and Pilot, our Boxer dog. We plan to travel up to Angola and back to Hermanus again.

We try to visit all the lesser known places and to camp as much as possible.

We left Hermanus on the 2nd of October 2008 and traveled to Cape Town to make final arrangements for our trip. We still needed some kit as well, which we also got in Cape Town. We also met up with the biggest supporter of our trip, my brother-in-law. Without his help we would still have been organizing things in Cape Town! He also made some last minute kit for us at his factory, Gelini Spring Manufacturing.

On Saturday the 4th we left Cape Town and traveled up the coast with no advance bookings or knowledge of where we are going. All we had was what kit we could fit into the Rangie and some saving money.

The following people helped us prepare for our trip.

CV Centre, Hermanus:

Ian helped us with the building of a roof rack and supplying us with a few important items. He was also available for advice whenever we needed it.

He is the only place to go to if you are in the Overberg or Hermanus area for CV Joints or 4x4 advice !!!

Gelini Trading:

Francois helped us in Cape Town and drove me around to do some last minute shopping. He took me all the way to Stellenbosch to buy a GPS. He also supplied us with some springs to use with storm straps on our tent. We will think of him every time we use our big orange box !!!

Vredendal Signs:

Jaco and Jeanette did the sign writing on our car free of charge. We stayed over at there place in Vredendal for a couple of days. Jaco was also kind enough to lend us 2 x 20lt jerry cans for water.

So whenever you want anything done in the line of stickers or signs, give them a call at Vredendal Signs.

We cut a tyre on the way and took it in for repairs. We came out as friends with the owner. The service was really great.

The car went in for repairs and we were amazed at the service we got. The workshop is also very well stocked to look after your Landy.

Molopo Lodge

A great place to stay. Just before the Kgaligadi and 5km from the Botswana Border. A real oasis in the Kalahari.
